Ballina Dolphins Swimmers went the distance at last week's Connacht A Graded Gala in Longford. Seán Canavan was the first Ballina Dolphin’s swimmer to take part in the 400 Meter freestyle event and as always he did not disappoint showing great speed and ability in the water while showing of his great technical ability.
Ballina athlete finishes 13th in Belfast marathon
Wild windy weather and driving rain greeted the athletes in the 2012 Belfast marathon. Coupled with a challenging course, this was not a marathon for the faint hearted this year.

The actress Joyce Redman, who has died in Kent, aged 96, grew up on Bartra Island in Killala Bay, County Mayo. Joyce Redman was born into an Anglo-Irish family and spent her childhood on the beautiful island in the Moy estuary.

Mayor and TD joining Gorta Commemorative Walk in Ballina
The Mayor of Ballina Peter Clarke has given his support to the Gorta commemorative walk, which is due to take place in Ballina on Monday, 7th May. The walk is to coincide with the National Famine Commemoration events, which remembers all those who died during An Gorta Mór. He will be joined on the walk by Dara Calleary TD. A big turnout is expected for the occasion.
Ballina St Patrick's Day Parade winners are honoured
There was a big turnout for the Ballina St Patrick's Day Parade Committee annual awards presentation ceremony in Paddy Jordan's public house. The Best Overall Winning Float award went to Hollister and other winners included Irene Hegarty whose Art School won the Creative Arts section; Kathleen Langan and staff of Katie's Corner who won the Commercial Retail Section award and Mareia Carr and staff at the Junction Restaurant winners of the Hospitality Section.
Ballina Community Games athletic finals takes place at Ballina Athletic Club Belleek on Monday, 7th May. Registration from 2- 2.30pm.
